World Information: Earth it is just as our Earth is, though there are some people out there with extraordinary abilities, a little bit like X-Men, but not as common. Planar travel also exists, but is incredibly rare - Earth is essentially a sort of hub for worlds in this universe.
Heaven is a plane that is very bright, golden, clouds, beautiful, etc. Heaven generally works on a caste system - those up high stay up high, those down low stay down low, and humans that go to heaven tend to be at the bottom - not that the bottom is a bad place to be, by any means. The higher the rank an angel is, the less human they look and the more terrifying they are. The only way to move up in rank is to join the military, while the ways to move down in rank are numerous. Angels do not have families and tend to be trained according to the caste they are in as well as their particular talents - there tend to be cohorts among those within the same caste and job. Heaven is perpetually training troops and amassing a large army in preparation for “the attack” - though nobody would be able to say who, exactly, will be attacking. Heaven does its best to indoctrinate those within it and has a very black and white view of things.
Hell is a plane that Aaron does not know much about - all he knows is that there’s an awful lot of sin and apparently some pretty great parties. In actuality, there is a princedom that rules Hell, with each prince having dominion over lands in Hell. The princes were chosen by Satan himself. With time they are free to shape their section of Hell as they see fit. Each kingdom has its own small army, which all come together to create the greater forces of Hell (should an attack ever be put forth by them) - they generally squabble between themselves too much to organize anything serious.
In the very early days it is told that two brothers came into existence, and the two often would compete with each other and create elaborate things and creatures, only for the other to destroy it. The creations grew to be more and more extravagant, until one day the competition grew less than friendly and the destruction of the other’s creation became more malicious than it was light-hearted. The two of them struck an accord: they would create a universe and each contribute to it. Rather than destroy what the other created, they would let it play out, and thus the heavenly and hellish planes were created and the two sides set to war. With planes and generals created in the image of each brother, they were equally matched. After quite a while they agreed it was going nowhere, and they came together one final time to create the earthly plane, which each agreed they would not interfere with the happenings on - the goal would be to collect as many beings from the earthly plane, and the brother with the most souls at the end of time would be the winner.
It is assumed that God and Satan are the brothers of eld, but neither will confirm nor deny it, so there is no telling if that is actually the case. They are treated as the ultimate authority over each plane, though both are quite withdrawn from the actual going-ons of things.
Personal History: Warning for drug abuse, insinuation of self harm & attempted suicide
Aaron came into existence (as angels aren’t really born, per se), unclear as to where he was or where he had come from - memories do not carry from a mundane life into what comes after. Heaven has no patience for those who cannot catch on quickly, so Aaron quite quickly found a friend in another young angel, who came to call himself Abel, who had been around for a little longer to help him learn the ropes. The two became quickly inseparable and both were absolutely smitten with the idea of becoming avenging angels in the heavenly army, so they joined.
They spent centuries training with weapons, divine magic, etc, to both become very talented. The time came to pick their specializations and the two decided here to take different paths - Abel focused more on scouting other planes, while Aaron preferred the eventual glory that would come with being an actual avenger. They were still close, but the two parted ways to focus on their training.
As part of Aaron’s training he often would spend time patrolling the boundaries of heaven and, one day, Abel came up and was frantic. He had met someone and was defecting from the forces and leaving and he had come back to bring Aaron with him. This was a rare case where an angel left heaven and managed to stray away from the teachings thought to be so ingrained in him. Aaron refused to leave with Abel, unwilling to betray his home, though Aaron also swore himself to secrecy over the events, and Abel left. It did not take long for the dissent to spread through the ranks, and Aaron was pulled into questioning over Abel. Upon refusing to give any information on Abel, Aaron’s wings were broken and stripped, and he was banished to the earthly plane.
Aaron landed on earth in France in 1821, though Aaron isn't so sure the exact year himself. It took a decade or so for Aaron to get his bearings and come somewhat to terms with his situation - alcohol and the arts really helped him at least cope with the situation he was dealt. Aaron participated strongly in the revolt against the July Monarchy in 1848, pleased when things went along with what the people wanted. Thus things continued: Aaron lived on the streets and did favors, jobs, whatever he could find to afford liquor and tobacco. Aaron lived his life in Paris and watched as humans grew and died, always doing his best to duck in and out of areas of Paris so he was never actually recognizable.
Things changed with World War I. Aaron didn't want for France to go into this war and he wasn't thrilled when Jean Jaurès was assassinated. The war eventually drove Aaron into doing more than drink and he found his way into the heroin scene, causing Aaron to break down. Who knew that even angels were prone to addiction? It didn't take long for Aaron to develop a habit that didn't take long to turn into a problem. Aaron lost track of time and spent decades using and finding - ahem - creative ways to get his hands on more to keep the high going. He couldn't tell you how many times he's overdosed, nor how many times he's tried to otherwise exit Earth with more direct methods. He's stopped counting and his body always healed without the scars.
When the French introduced treating opioid abuse with buprenorphine in 1995, Aaron went through that process to get clean and started to try to make music. He experienced a very mild success with this, but eventually relapsed. He struggled with pinging between wanting to get better and wanting to just not for a while, with little to no progress happening. He just recently started to spend time with a quite handsome man, though, and has made the choice to get sober to try to woo him.
Personality:
Easygoing and charismatic when he's sober, Aaron is someone who is easy enough to get along with. He doesn't like to talk about himself all that much, but he will stay up all night long listening to someone if they have enough to keep talking. He will make an effort to avoid hard topics specifically - especially those pertaining to him - and never encourages people to talk about things if they seem iffy about it. When he's in a good place he's quite polite and thoughtful, loyal to a fault.
He takes loyalty very seriously, as it was something that was ingrained into him from the moment he first rose: loyalty above all else. It is perhaps his greatest trait and his greatest weakness. If someone befriends him then they have a friend for life that will drop everything for them. Even after Aaron was threatened and cast out he never gave his friend up despite a couple hundred years of taunting and teasing. He would die for those he is friends with. The opposite of this is he has trouble finding forgiveness for those who do betray him, though he probably will be willing to defend their actions given the situation. This is, by far, his biggest and most glaring weakness, and it is something that could be easily used against him.
Perhaps the single most important thing to Aaron is honesty. Aaron is honest beyond a fault to the point that people may think he is physically unable to lie, and he wishes that everyone was that way. It would make things so much easier. Aaron judges people who knowingly and willingly lie incredibly harshly and takes lies incredibly personally. He finds it a betrayal and a lack of respect and that is a grudge he will absolutely keep through a complete and blatant lack of trust for the person. Rather than lie he will refuse to answer a question or simply change the subject to divert the conversation. Should things come to it he may only partially answer a question just to get someone off of his back, but he will never knowingly lie: the things he says someone can be convinced that Aaron believes it to be absolutely true. In the vein of loyalty and honesty, he takes promises incredibly seriously.
Aaron is relatively judgemental, prone to making snap judgements about people based on first interactions and generally locking a person into that assumption for quite a while. Similarly, he tends to take sorting methods a bit to heart: people sorted into like class houses will be quite defined by the house stereotype for him. Those that are negatively classified by the auras he sees also tend to be pretty boxed in to the explanation of who they are by it. Because of this he can have an inclination to focus more on faults than strengths, but he is somewhat aware of his critical nature and sometimes just needs to be called out for it. He also does have sort of stereotypes based on different creatures: he has a soft spot for humans and their shortcomings, he would expect great things from elves - especially those long lived, and he holds divine people to great standards. Demons are an evil that ought to be purged, and those that consort with demons are rarely much better.
He can be dismissive in the way an eternal creature can become. He finds a lot of problems seeming to be a bit superficial, and he can have a tendency to privately keep a scorecard of suffering. He won't speak out loud about the pissing contest on who suffers more, but it is a bit difficult to find him particularly empathetic to the suffering of mortals. It is not uncommon for Aaron to be dismissive about issues he finds to be trivial, especially if he personally feels that time is something that will heal it.
Aaron is quite proud, as are all of the creatures of heaven and the divine. He loves to have his ego stroked and is more than well aware of his strengths and even, despite being cast out, heavily leans on the fact that he is a true angel. He can become vitriolic if his shortcomings are brought up and criticized. Aaron will internalize these criticisms and consider them, working on them, but he will argue and fight against criticism up front just out of principle. He's already been cast out for one thing, so he refuses to acknowledge up front that he may not be perfect. As a side-effect of his pride, Aaron is passively vain. Rather than cry and let others see, he will cry on his terms: he shouldn't ugly cry, he should be beautiful and tragic. This is why he's always lived in Paris. The way humans romanticize it led him to desire to live there and be a truly tragic figure: an angel cast out wrongly living in Paris, a city of romance. Mourn him and his misfortune. This isn't something that so much comes out in the way he keeps himself but just in some of the ways he reacts to situations.
Aaron tends to be non-confrontational about many things. If he discovers you've lied to him he will simply cease interaction and otherwise ignore the person. If he finds that you have wronged him, he will do the same. He may hold a grudge but if you ask him why he may not be willing to speak to you to tell you. He tends to be a pretty easy-going person so outside of lying to him this would require a pretty definitive betrayal that seems to have some pretty malicious intent.
Because of his strict upbringing and then being cast out to a place with no structure, Aaron is a bit of a rebel. He has a flair for causing a little mischief for those who take themselves too seriously and loves to play harmless pranks on others. He thinks that mortal lives are too short to take rules all that seriously and mortals ought to have a bit of fun with the time they're given. (Coop's note: sober and well-adjusted Aaron is meant to give off the cool mischievous big brother vibe.) Aaron ultimately loves to play.
Aaron is, on a good day, quite the flirt. Any man he perceives as mildly attractive he will likely end up flirting with. He generally expects nothing to come of it, but he is always delighted when something does. He will back off if told to, otherwise each conversation will have flirty overtones. Aaron thinks he's hot stuff
As a note, Aaron is coming onto the train having never coped with his actual casting out. His time on earth was spent being drunk, having sex, and, after WW1, doing drugs. Living life in a blur and doing his best to be numb was the easiest way to get through the day to day. Projecting into the future, he does eventually get clean, but it's a struggle every step of the way. He couldn't tell you the number of times he's OD'd or given himself alcohol poisoning. But, he's trying, and the train won't give him much of a choice in the matter.
CRAU developments: n/a
Key themes: Addiction, finding grace
Main Motivation: Not being miserable, since he thinks he's irredeemable
Skills:
He's a talented music artist, he just doesn't know it yet - he becomes the man behind Missio on his version of Earth in the future, but we haven't gotten there.
Angelic Metabolism: Doesn't need to breathe, eat, drink - he can if he wants to, though. He is essentially immortal and will not age past where he is. He is susceptible to experiencing things such as hangovers, pain, withdrawal, but doesn't experience any negative side effects other than feeling incredibly bad. He has an incredibly high healing factor and can heal even the most fatal of wounds in a day or so, but the wounds that once were his wings are cursed by Michael to never heal.
Blinded by Faith: His eyes appear as if he has cataracts. This has faded quite a bit during his time on earth, but he can see auras that categorize people. These colors are based on a faith system and are not necessarily accurate - so they are based on what he was taught in his time with heaven, so demons will always have a black aura, someone good will shine white or golden. Due to this fading this is only really relevant for people who fall on either extreme: demons/pure evil, and those of pure good (angels, someone with a bright soul like Sarai or Dread, etc).
Miracles: Can perform miracles. (I'll keep these small and minor and otherwise coordinate with you if it's anything relatively big.)
Languages: Can comprehend and communicate in all Earthly and Divine languages, both written and spoken. He is pretty fluent in Infernal as well, and knows some of the language of the Old Gods. He can also mimic accents perfectly, but he defaults to a French accent and speaking in French. (Please someone ask him to speak Infernal with a French accent.)
Divine Armaments: All Armaments are rose gold accented with silver. Armor that is essentially this, with the spikes arranged in a way for wings to comfortably stick out. A version of this weapon. He also has an almost ceremonial-looking short sword, an elaborate longbow with arrows, and throwing knives. These can be summoned anytime, anywhere.
Shackled: This isn’t so much a power but so long as Aaron has faith, whatever his deity is can yank him through the planes to wherever the deity currently resides. This also gives him access to prophetic dreams from his deity.
Speedy Courier: Rather than having something like sending/message, Aaron has access to something similar to Galder's Speedy Courier from d&d. He can summon a small celestial being to deliver items of a reasonable size and messages to people. This works regardless the plane and distance.
Holy Fire: Worth mentioning he is able to summon a cleansing holy flame. He mostly uses this to light cigarettes and couples it with his weapons.
Bless Water: He can bless water and make it holy water.
Other than that he basically has access to anything on the D&D cleric/paladin spell lists. If I ever plan to do something like plane shift or commune I'll poke ya about it and we can figure it out.
Item: Pack of cigarettes, brand new. Thanks train.
Sample: Here
Notes: You're free to treat Aaron as one of your prophetic dreamers - I think it'd be super funny because he'll think they're messages from God. :)
